The reigning and defending champion had looked likely to be relegated at one stage but fought his way out of trouble to propel himself up the table.
The Dutchman was unbeaten in the final eight matches of the season and is in confident mood ahead of next week’s finals night at London’s O2.
“I went from thinking I was getting relegated to qualifying the Play-Offs,” said ‘Barney’, the five-time World Champion.
“I’m really pleased and really proud of myself. I’m really looking forward to next week. I’d love to hold on to my title. All the players in the semi-finals are fantastic players but I’m a fantastic player too and I can beat anyone.”
van Barneveld will play compatriot Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals next Thursday.
