Raymond van Barneveld secured back to back McCoy’s Premier League victories as he saw off Wes Newton in Aberdeen on Thursday evening.
‘Barney’, who defeated Gary Anderson on the opening night in Belfast last week, produced another strong performance to maintain his perfect start to his 2013 campaign.
The Dutchman brilliantly took out three finishes of over 100 as he cruised to a comfortable victory.
“I finished very well and got a fantastic average,” said van Barneveld, who averaged over 100 for the second week running.
“You can’t do any better than winning. I’ve been putting the work in recently and that’s showing now.
“I practise every day and I feel great. There is no reason why this form can’t continue.”
‘Barney’ pegged double top to break the throw in the opening leg before hammering home his first 180, as he doubled his lead with a lovely 116 checkout.
Newton pulled a leg back but a brilliant 177 set up and double ten finish restored van Barneveld’s two leg lead.
The Dutch ace then pounded the treble twenty again, hitting his second maximum before a second 116 checkout made it 4-1.
He followed that with a brilliant 117 finish before slotting in his third 180 and a 76 checkout to guarantee himself at least a draw.
Newton reduced van Barneveld’s lead to 6-2 but the five-time World Champion soon wrapped up the win.
He scored his fourth 180 before completing the job on double eight.
‘Barney’ faces World Cup team-mate Michael van Gerwen in Bournemouth next Thursday.
