The Netherlands’ World Cup of Darts title defence ended in a semi-final defeat at the hands of Scotland in Frankfurt on Sunday evening.

The Dutch duo of Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld went down 4-1 in a doubles decider against Gary Anderson and Peter Wright.

van Gerwen had beaten Wright 4-3 in a brilliant singles game but ‘Barney’ was beaten 4-1 by World Champion Anderson.

Having seen off USA and South Africa in reaching the final day, team Netherlands then defeated Northern Ireland to reach the last four, winning their pairs match 4-0 with a 107 average after van Gerwen had beaten Brendan Dolan but van Barneveld lost out to Mickey Mansell.

It started well in the last four as ‘Mighty Mike’ averaged 106.5 in his victory over Wright but defeats for van Barneveld and in the the doubles tie-breaker saw the Dutch pair surrender their title.
