Raymond van Barneveld progressed into the second round of the World Darts Championship with a straight sets victory over Jamie Lewis.
Five-time World Champion ‘Barney’ dropped just three legs against the Welsh youngster at London’s Alexandra Palace on Sunday evening.
“Jamie is a fantastic player and he showed that tonight,” said The Dutchman, who will now face Jamie Caven on Friday.
“I had to work for my victory and I’m very happy with it. It wasn’t easy but I played okay and got the job done.
“This is the biggest tournament of the year. I’m in the next round. It’s my dream to win it again and I’m one small step closer to that.”
van Barneveld hit a 180 in each of the first four legs as he took the first set 3-1.
He then won the second set by the same margin, upping his maximum tally to five in the process.
It was 3-1 to the Dutch star again in the third set as he sealed the victory in style, taking out a fabulous 141 finish in the final leg.
